Stop Trying to "Get Healthy"

Updated: Dec 3, 2018

How many time have you resolved to do something differently, only to resort back to your old ways a few days later?  We see these folks on Instagram and think "man, I want to look like that.  I want to lose weight and get healthier".

Well, what does that even mean?  We say these things without a clear idea of how to make them reality, so we put them off and keep feeling lousy about ourselves in the meantime.

Stop making GOALS. Take action steps.

ACTION STEPS:

Take your existing goal and start breaking it down.  For example, if you want to lose weight, how do you plan to go about it?

Exercise and eating better?  Great, now break THESE down.

Exercise:

  • Where?

  • Doing what?

  • How often?

  • For how long?

  • What is your budget for exercise related expenses?

Eating Better:

Make a couple of things each week to have on hand for when you get hungry.
  • Identify times when you are not eating healthy.

  • Why are you not eating healthy at these times and what is it you are eating?

  • What are healthier options?

  • How will these healthier foods fit into your existing schedule and food budget?

  • How many times a week will you splurge?

  • I know this sounds tedious.  Like way to much thinking about what should be pretty simple stuff, but it's not that simple.  If it were so simple, you'd already be doing it, right?

When we create goals, many things get in the way before we even begin to work towards them.

1. They are WAY too vague.  This makes them overwhelming.

2. We have expectations of how quickly we will reach them that are unrealistic.

3. We bail at any sign of imperfection.  Ahh the ol' "all or nothing" mindset.  It gets even the best of us.

4. We don't create a supportive environment for ourselves.  Tell trusted friends and family what you're up to.  Let them know how they can help support you (a lot of people want to but don't know how).  Avoid people and places that will trigger the behavior that got you here in the first place.

Ready to make some changes?  Need help turning goals into action plans?  I CAN HELP
